In their joint global survey „Internal Audit: A Global View“ by the Internal Audit Foundation and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), in which more than 3,600 internal audit professionals from a range of different entities, industries and regions in 159 locations were asked, trends within the development of internal audit functions (IAFs) were examined. These include the efforts of IAFs with respect to Information technology and cybersecurity, Standards conformance of the IAF’s work as well as funding of IAFs and their demographic developments.
The findings of the above mentioned suggest regional differences within the internal audit profession, facing and shaping rapid changes within their environment. Furthermore, the results of the survery underlined the trend of IAFs not only offering monitoring activities, but adding value to stakeholders through oversight and management advisory.
